I've been wanting to do the Mauerradweg, a bike tour around former Western Berlin along the former Wall, for two years now. It's 160 km and I want to tackle them in one go. I'd never even try if there was no way to abort early, but there are city train stations every now and then so that's no problem.

If I'm gonna try I won't do so in less than stellar conditions. This is crazy enough, I don't want to be battling strong winds or rain on top of it. It has to be light long enough to give ample time, so summer. 30°C and beyond do not sound like fun, however. Also, preferrably, not that time of the month. Not as easy as you might believe it to be...

Today's forecast's perfect, I discovered last Sunday. Got some provisions, got the map, got all excited.

Not gonna happen. Because I just woke up to find my arm hurting like it hasn't in weeks.

Don't know the words to swear as much as I'd like to.

I recently discovered a so called "Bolzplatz" near my home. There are two baskets for, hold your breath, basketball and two "Torwände" for football. Appearantly there is no translation for the latter so I'll just give a picture:

The whole thing's surrounded by big metal fences so the balls won't go too far.

Now what does the sign near the entrance say? "Bolzplatz. For use of children until the age of 16." Wtf? How about you just go frak yourselves?! Bureaucracy... I don't think it will ever cease to amaze and irritate me.

Maybe you're supposed to play with a different kind of balls if you're older. I wouldn't know about that.

It has come to my attention that the Tagesthemen, a (formerly?) respected news magazine on German public television, has managed to frak up the US flag by adding an extra stripe:

Please note - this is not an act of German Anti-Americanism! We do this all the time even with our own flag:

See? See??

Also, we were actually trying to make you guys bigger by adding another founding state! What did you say? No, of course there's nothing wrong with having only 13 founding states! I didn't say that!!! Anyway...

Please don't bomb us!

Hint for the guys and gals at Tagesthemen: Chances are you're gonna need these flags again some time. How about doing it right once and then saving them somewhere for reuse? Just a crazy thought...

Got some new pills to help with the pain.... Am still achy, but now I am also covered in red dots and blots and all itchy. Ah, the fun of it *rollseyes*

I got an appointment for a center specialized in neural illnesses in August however. I'll just focus on that.

The doctors are still undecided about what nice little sucker of an illness has decided to come down on me. Which means more hospital for comparison tests at the end of July. Yay.

Whatever it is though, one of its effects is that I tire very quickly. As in, I get a good night's sleep, get up feeling reasonably fresh only to be totally worn out some two or three hours later. I then have two possibilities. I can either catch some more sleep, meaning I am out cold for one hour at the least. Which is OK once in a while, but isn't quite that helpful when actually trying to get things done. Or I can battle it. Which is relatively easy while for example riding a bike or meeting friends, but try this while brooding over some boring text you need to read for your thesis.

I bought some Guarana powder recently, maybe that'll help some. If so, it'll be well worth its price. If not... well, I'll think about it when it happens. If anyone has good tips however, please share!

In case you were wondering, being hailed upon all of a sudden is no fun at all. What's more, being hailed upon while riding your bike is even less fun. And, guess what, being hailed upon while riding your bike on a busy road is spectacularly little fun.

Bridges, however, are your friends, so be sure to always treat them well.

That's what I am. It's bronchitis now. I feel a lot better today, but yesterday I felt like sh!t. Really. OK, I'm done whining for now. I'd better be, my arm is speaking up again :\

Yeah, I know, that was more whining... I'm just gonna shut up... like... now. End of show. Really.

Piece of advice: making scrambled eggs by putting the eggs into a high, relatively slender container and then stirring them with an electric eggbeater on highest setting is not as good an idea as you might believe it to be...

If, on the other hand, you're the kind of person who can laugh at their own mishaps, go right ahead, it might actually cheer you up.

(I happen to be quite a decent cook, if I may say so myself, so failing at something like that... well, it made me laugh *g*)

Now, how's that for creatively naming categories? This one will be about things that annoy me. A lot.

For reasons that aren't really important right here and now, I have had the dubious pleasure of repeated correspondation with German government agencies recently. (Stuff like that could form a whole category on its own, but $%#@§ should do just fine.) Repeated correspondations that have me yet awaiting a decision, I might add. You just take your time, it's not as if I actually need the stuff I am applying for...

Anyway, now we're at the point where they believe me to live in a "marriage like" relationship with my flatmate. OK, where are those headquarters and who wants to earn a toaster oven? (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go here, look for headquartes and read the dialogue at this point. Rinse and repeat as there are two matches and both are relevant.) Or, to cut to the point, I am frakking gay and he's, well, a he...
