I just had a little video surfing spree before being off to bed. Stumbled upon the A-Team intro. And, quite literally, laughed out loud at 0:44.

They even included the sound effect... nuts. But it sure is my kind of nuts.

I just did some fiddling in Photoshop to make a gift coupon for Christmas. (It's not as lame as it sounds. In fact, I think it's pretty darn cool. But, thanks to Murphy, if I spill, this is going to be the one time the receiver is going to read this blog. Ergo, spilling has been suspended until further notice.)

Anyway, I wanted to match a given font, so I needed to identify it first. I already knew there was a site that asked you questions about a font and then tried to find out which one it was:
Identifont. However, while looking for it, I found another one. And this one lets you load up an image and then identifies the font: WhatTheFont?!. No guarantee as to the reliability, but the one I tried worked like a charm. Sweet.

"Search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750s to today." Hosted by Google.

I could easily spend hours there... Found via the ever great
USA Erklärt. Thanks :)

I've heard about The Onion before, I just never remembered to actually check it out. And, frak it, I really should have, that stuff is awesome. It's the kind of satire, picking on politics and society, that frequently makes you cringe because it's so dark, evil and yet totally on the mark. Very much recommended!

As an appetizer, I give you my favorite from Youtube - "Gays Too Precious To Risk In Combat":

Runner-ups:

There, that should keep you occupied. Wouldn't want you to do something productive out of boredom!

Just in case you've never seen it - it's just a B5 trailer for SciFi channel, but it sure is different. If you look close enough, you might even be able to figure out why I like it ;)

"This survey will determine your ability scores, fantasy race, class, alignment, and character level describing what you would be if you were transformed into a Dungeons and Dragons character."

I found it via
[info]leyenn. So thanks for that :-)

I Am A: Neutral Good Human Wizard (3rd Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength-12
Dexterity-13
Constitution-12
Intelligence-17
Wisdom-12
Charisma-12

Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

The more detailed results concerning my alignment were quite interesting:

Lawful Good (21)
Neutral Good (22)
Chaotic Good (20)
Lawful Neutral  (18)
True Neutral (19)
Chaotic Neutral (17)

Conclusive, isn't it? *g*

Time to play.

Dwarf Complete basically is one big puzzle. Go exlore, go think and try to solve it all. The mechanics are pretty simple, the puzzles are diverse, fun and mostly fair. I got all but two without help. One of these was solved by something I believed to have tried already, the other by something I had thought of, but considered to be unfair. Still, none of the other puzzles depends on this one :)

Without help it should take you something between one and two hours. Oh, and you can leave and come back later and continue. Try if that works early on, it did for me.

Click the nice little image to try.

A friend of mine asked me to answer a few questions about him that might or might not change the daemon the Golden Compass webpage chose for him. Of course, I had to do mine, too.

Turns out mine is a hare. So far. If you actually know me, you can answer five questions about me and maybe make it change. Try and get me a bird, will you?

Yet another category. This one will sport places on the internet I consider worth knowing. Which probably means, they're useful, educational, entertaining or any combination of the three.

If you find yourself baffled by a piece of slang you've never come across before
(like, say, "you win the internet") and can't find it in any "ordinary" dictionary, go and try Urban Dictionary. Its entries are user-submitted and user-rated, so you should definitely take things with a grain of salt, but it has helped me out several times now.
