Got a new T-shirt by a friend recently. And yes, that is newsworthy, as it says: "Just one more ..." and then sports a picture of a toaster oven. Which is meant to be a reference to Ellen's puppy episode, but - at the moment - also makes a great BSG shirt. Very efficient that :)

Thanks again, amazing hero of computer linguistics!

It has come to my attention that the Tagesthemen, a (formerly?) respected news magazine on German public television, has managed to frak up the US flag by adding an extra stripe:

Please note - this is not an act of German Anti-Americanism! We do this all the time even with our own flag:

See? See??

Also, we were actually trying to make you guys bigger by adding another founding state! What did you say? No, of course there's nothing wrong with having only 13 founding states! I didn't say that!!! Anyway...

Please don't bomb us!

Hint for the guys and gals at Tagesthemen: Chances are you're gonna need these flags again some time. How about doing it right once and then saving them somewhere for reuse? Just a crazy thought...

My "nephew", to be born some time in September, finally decided to grant me an audience. I got to feel (and see) him kick and punch his mother. Appearantly he had some pent up energy to spend because it went on for quite a bit.

I've never experienced someone's pregnancy close up before, so that was extra-extra-special. Amazing, it really is...

I also learned that his father once thought babies came out of their mothers a$$holes as he couldn't find any other viable "exits" when checking. On himself.

I've heard about The Onion before, I just never remembered to actually check it out. And, frak it, I really should have, that stuff is awesome. It's the kind of satire, picking on politics and society, that frequently makes you cringe because it's so dark, evil and yet totally on the mark. Very much recommended!

As an appetizer, I give you my favorite from Youtube - "Gays Too Precious To Risk In Combat":

Runner-ups:

There, that should keep you occupied. Wouldn't want you to do something productive out of boredom!

I'm a rather unpatriotic person. I know it's in to say so, but I really don't feel German most of the time. I'm human, European, Saxon, a Berliner, a student, a woman, gay, a SciFi-fan, a shipper... I feel all of these things a lot more often than the German part of myself.

Or, as Volker Pispers, a German political comedian puts it:
"Ich bin mit meinem bißchen Menschsein so sehr beschäftigt... zum Deutschsein komme ich ganz selten!"

Translation:
"I am so very busy being human.... I very rarely find time to be German!"

Exactly the way I feel.

Except, you know, I get these urges, like every two years.... Football European Championships aren't quite as "bad" as World Championships in that regard, but still:

Go get'em, guys! Schlaaand!!!

Oh, and if you feel like checking out Pispers, Youtube's your friend. There even are English subtitles.

Well, read the subject and consider yourself addressed if there's anything at all you are or would like to be celebrating at this time of the year.

If I ever decide on really starting a category ranting on dubbing, we'll meet that quote again.

For now, I present my favorite cartoon concerning the topic:

Translation:

"I've invented a machine to remove commerce from christmas." - "Let's build  a whole lot of them and sell them for lots of money."
