February 23, 1932 - December 18, 2008

From what little I've heard and read about her she must have been pretty amazing. I didn't even know she was sick and was still hoping to meet her at a convention once. Since Lady Morella has
already been covered, I'll quote Lwaxana Troi, one of my favorite recurring characters on ST:

"Every one of us has a thousand different kinds of... of little people inside of us. And some of them want to get out and be wild, and some want to be sad or happy or inventive or... or even just go dancing. That's why we all have so many different urges at different times. And all those different little people inside of us... we must never be afraid to take them with us, wherever we go."
- ST:TNG, Cost of Living

God, I do hate that category...

I've recently started watching Dexter with my flatmate and it's a real good show.

What's it about? The show's main character, Dexter Morgan, was adopted by a police officer after suffering some childhood trauma. His new dad soon realizes he has some emotional problems - among other things he likes to kill. Which isn't all that bad, if you only kill people who deserve it, right? Right?? Anyway, Dexter only kills people who themselves have killed and somehow avoided justice. His dad taught him how to avoid being captured. Plus, he works at the police, homicide department. Gotta love the set-up...

If you're into strong characters and well written stories at all, you should check it out. Unless, that is, you're too squeamish about seeing blood  because, surprise, there is some every now and then. It's not a horror show though, I'd really consider it a character and, to a lesser extent, social study. Plus, of course, there's some whodunnit in it, though not as much as the show's concept might make you expect.

Why's the entry part of the quotes collection? There are lots of quotable lines (Did I mention you get to hear Dexter's thoughts a lot? No? Well, you do!), but yesterday there was a piece of dialogue that really made me crack up. It's not really typical of the show though, just so I don't give rise to false expectations. Anyway, some police and FBI officers are talking about the manifesto a serial killer sent to a newspaper:

Batista: I see lots of [literary] references. Like this one: 'You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.'

Masuka (chuckling): He's a trekker, that shit's straight from Deep Space Nine!

Batista: What? Mark Twain said that. It's one of his most famous quotes.

Another Officer: Twain was never on Deep Space Nine, he was on Next Generation!

It's from A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court btw, as we are informed two lines later on.

Notice the profanity? We're on Showtime, baby, so frak the frakking FCC...  Also, pay TV means no commercials means longer episodes means more time for intro and previouslies. The latter are much too long in my opinion, but then I've never been really fond of them on any show. I also skip the intro most of the time, but it sure is a piece of art:

(The show on IMDb, Wikipedia, Batch's Blog and klti's blog - the last two are German.)
